Use these 3 Simple Facets to Develop Your Social Media Strategy

What is social media optimization?

Optimization refers to the process of reviewing, analyzing, auditing, and making adjustments to your social media strategy to be inline with the best practice and standards. It’s not always as technical as it sounds. Here are three tips to develop your social media strategy.

  1. Brand Alignment

Firstly, you need to ensure all of your brand accounts align with each other. A consistent brand voice across social platforms, and similar fonts and colours are essential to build brand recognition. When someone first encounters your brand, a quick search should reveal your brand accounts without confusing them. Consider using the same logo across platforms, and ensuring headers (twitter, facebook) are consistent and up to date.

  1. Searchability

There is a strategy for popping up first on the Instagram search bar. Ensure your username is clear (Say your brand is called Simple Milk, your @ name should be as close to that as possible. Consider @SimpleMilkCo or plainly, @SimpleMilk.)

Next, optimize your bio by using relevant words and descriptions. If you are a brand, label yourself as such with tags available to business accounts. Completely fill in all available slots in the biography section (Be sure to add a link to your site and fill in the name tag).

Importantly, using relevant hashtags in your posts will make you more searchable to users looking for what you offer. Consistently using these hashtags will make you appear top of the list. (Going back to the Simple Milk example; using hashtags like #milk and #dairy will be useful for them)

  1. Content

Establishing a content strategy is essential. With the plethora of content options available, it is important to really hone in on a strategy.

Determine a posting frequency and volume and stick to it. Develop a “look and feel” (do you like clean, bright, modern, or colourful?) and only post content that aligns with your designated look. While you’re at it, don’t forget to utilize a brand voice- are you young and adventurous or stable and responsible?  This is important because your brand voice will guide everything from interactions with your community to the content of your captions.
