If you think of date night or just a fancy meal out, the first food to come to mind is steak. Toronto has a ton of joints around the city where you can grab a good steak including multiple steakhouses but one spot will keep you coming back just for its unlimited side.
Located in the trendy neighbourhood of West Queen West, J’s SteakFrites is a French steakhouse. If you’re a lover of simple and good food, then this is the place to check out.
The restaurant doesn’t have many options, as it only serves up one four-course prix fixe menu that includes appetizers, main, and side.
Start the meal off with some housemade bread and butter then dig into your candied walnut green salad while you wait for the entree to come. If you fancy a drink with your meal, they’ve got a drink menu that includes, house cocktails, mocktails, pop, beer, and various types of wines.
The 10 oz New York striploin steak comes next and is cooked to your liking (the only correct way to have steak is medium rare sorry) and the steak is seasoned with salt and served with their special house sauce.
The best part of your dinner is the side of french fries, which are unlimited so you can ask your server for as many rounds of fries as you like to go with your steak. If you’re like me and are a french fry lover, then this is absolutely heaven for you.
After you’ve had your fixing of steak and potatoes, you can end your meal with one of their daily desserts. The desserts are seasonal and rotate daily and include chocolate cake, peach tarts, strawberry shortcake, and lemon meringue pie just to name a few. All the desserts are backed in-house by pastry chef and co-owner Tara Tang.
The price for this prix fixe four-course meal is $56 per person with dessert costing an extra $12 to $25. Any other drink will also be an extra cost with cocktails starting at $16.
