Ice cream is favourite sweet treat of many. If you’re like me, you’re always intrigued with new ways people are innovating the creamy dessert. This Toronto cafe is serving up ice cream in a flakey vessel.
Located in Scarborough, Evana Patisserie & Cafe puts an Asian twist on some of your favourite French pastries and desserts. They’re serving up delectable desserts that are perfect for when you want to celebrate any occasion.
The menu consists of classic French pastries, Danishes, eclairs, cakes, and a wide range of croissants, all with an Asian influence to it.
One of their most popular items is their pistachio circle croissant, which you guessed it, is shaped in a circle rather than the regular crescent shape. The flakey pastry is filled with cream and topped with a crumble of pistachio.
What really got this cafe going viral is their soft-serve croissant cones. Instead of the traditional sugar cone, waffle cone or cup, you can get your favourite flavour of ice cream in a flakey French pastry. Thai milk tea is a popular flavour but they rotate flavours every month.
The dessert was inspired by Japanese Taiyaki, which is a fish-shaped cake filled with red bean or custard, which can be served with soft serve on top of it. They thought why not try a croissant, so they hollowed out one of the flakey pastries and the rest was history.
Although their croissant soft serve is what put them on the map, other desserts like the Matcha Wreath, Kalamansi Meringue and their other massive croissants are what will keep you coming back for more.
The cafe also serves up unique flavours of cake including London Fog, passionfruit, oolong lychee, durian, and black sesame. If you’re a fan of crepes, you can also get a crepe cake with one of these Asian flavours.
Evana Patisserie & Cafe also specializes in opera cakes. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a French cake made with layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup and layered ganache and coffee buttercream.
Let us know if you’ve ever tried the viral croissant ice cream and if you think it’s worth the hype.
