This app lets you get food from Toronto restaurants at a discounted rate

Food waste is a big problem in the food industry. Let’s face it, not everything sells and sometimes restaurants have to throw out food at the end of the day. But what if I told you there was a way to help restaurants reduce food waste for a fraction of the cost of a meal?

The app Too Good To Go is the solution we’ve all been looking for. The app connects you to local restaurants and stores in your neighbourhood that are offering surprise bags of items for a fraction of the cost.

You’ll find everything from small local businesses, bakeries, cafes, and even big named grocery stores like Metro

There are different categories you can shop from including produce, baked goods, bread, and ready-to-eat meals. You’ll never know exactly what you’ll get since every bag is a surprise and different for each customer.

These surprise bags are for a fraction of the cost that these stores or restaurants would sell them for as these are products that would otherwise end up as waste. The surprise bags can range anywhere from $3.99 to $12.99 depending on the product and store.

After you’ve placed an order, you then have a designated time to pick up your surprise bag. Sometimes it’s the same day other times you could be reserving items for the next day. Some places are more popular than others and sell out quick so if there is a favourite spot of yours, make sure to check back frequently to see if they have any bags available.

In the app, you can also check to see what your impact is from buying a surprise bag, including how much money you’ve saved, how many bags you’ve ordered and an estimate of CO2e saved from ordering from the app.

Too Good To Go’s motto is “the app that lets you rescue unsold food at your favourite spots from an untimely fate.”

Not only is the company saving the planet but they’re also saving you some extra cash.

Is this the Too Good To Go app something you would try? Let us know in the comments.
